Snyder was a well-known landscape painter from Madison, IN, which is in the extreme southern portion of the state, on the Ohio River. He studied in Cincinnati, New York, and Philadelphia. He was one of the earliest artists to paint in Brown County, IN, in the 1870s. His style was distinctive, incredibly detailed landscapes influenced by the Hudson river painters.
