| 618. V.J. Cariani (American, 1891-1969), "The Autumn Sycamore", c.1930; oil/board, 24" x 20", signed. Cariani studied at the Art Students League in New York, where he met Marie Goth, from Indiana. The two became close friends, and after serving in WWI, Cariani was convinced by Goth to visit Brown County. He moved in with Marie and her sister, Genevive, and resumed painting. He exhibited at the Hoosier Salon, Brown County Art Gallery Association, and the Chicago World's Fair. Cariani eventually built a separate studio on the Goth property.
