602. Homer G. Davisson (American, 1866-1957), "Landing the Catch", c.1930; oil/canvas, 24" x 30", signed, original frame. Davisson studied art at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, Art Students League (NYC), and the Corcoran School of Art (Washington D.C.). Davisson painted in the U.S. and in Europe, and his subject matter was primarily landscapes and coastal scenes. He did paint harbor scenes in Brittany, but it appears that he was working in the United States from 1929-1931, so this scene is most likely Gloucester, Massachusetts. He exhibited at the Hoosier Salon, Swope Art Gallery, Fort Wayne Art Museum, and the Indiana Art Club. He was a charter member of the Brown County Art Gallery Association in 1926 (Davisson regularly spent time in the summer of each year in Nashville, beginning in 1920). He was a teacher at the Fort Wayne Art School. Property of Oak Park River Forest High School. Exhibited: Hoosier Salon, 1930, #62, Daughters of Indiana Purchase Prize. 2500-3500
