597. Samuel Franklin Hershey (American, b.1904), "Morning Surf, Rockport, Massachusetts", c.1936; oil/canvas, 20" x 24", signed, original frame, Hoosier Salon exhibition label verso. Hershey studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and the Boston Museum of Fine Art School, with A.T. Hibbard and W.L. Stevens. He was a member of the Rockport Art Association, New Haven Paint and Clay Club, and the North Shore Art Association. He taught art at Harvard (1937-1942) and the Rhode Island School of Design (1940s).
