589. William Sargent Kendall (American, 1869-1938), "Portrait of a Woman", c.1900; pastel/paper, 20" x 12", signed. Kendall studied at the Art Students League, with Eakins in Philadelphia, and in Paris. He was a member of the National Academy, Newport Art Association, and the Society of American Artists. He exhibited at the Paris Salon, Columbian Expo (Chicago), Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, Pan-Am Expo (Buffalo, 1901), St. Louis Expo (1904), and the National Academy of Design. His work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design, National Gallery of Art, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, and John Hopkins University. He was the Dean of Fine Art at Yale from 1913-1922. Kendall was a figure painter, and worked in the style of the Boston School. He frequently executed works on paper. 5000-7000
