Unique Ray Komai chair, variation of Model No. 939, symmetrically centered ash veneer over four ebonized legs, back legs curved, wood connecting brace to back with nickel-plated fasteners in front, stamped "XII" on base, small chip and repairs to veneer at seat front, 21"w x 21"d x 26.5"h, very good condition 900-1200
Komai worked for the U.S. Information Agency in the late 1950s and early 1960s producing Cultural Expositions for Germany, Austria, India and Japan. This chair was probably designed for one of these pavillions. |
