1876-1953), "Pirate Girl", c.1905;
pastel/paper, 34" x 20", signed and
dated. Highly important painter and illustrator. Shinn met Henri
and other members of what would come to be known as "The Eight",
while working for a newspaper in Philadelphia. Shinn's
work emphasized theatrical subjects, and for a time, he worked as art
director for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Shinn exhibited from the
1890s-1940s, and his work has been featured in numerous retrospectives
concerning the work of the "Ashcan School",
