| 531. Eda Sterchi (American, b.1885), "Chicago Street Scene",
c.1905; oil/board, 10.5" x 14", signed, nice carved frame. Sterchi was
born in Olney, a small town in south central Illinois. She left for
Chicago in 1908 to attend the Art Institute. Soon afterward, she traveled
to Paris to study. She met with early success, exhibiting in 1913 at
the American Artists Club and the International Artists Union (both
in Paris). She also exhibited at the Salon d'Automne,
American Womens Club and the Societe Nationale des Beaux Arts (all
in Paris). In the United States, she exhibited annually at the
Art Institute of Chicago from 1915-1920, and had a one man show
there in 1929. She also exhibited at the Chicago Artist Guild,
Corcoran Gallery (1928), Santa Barbara Museum of Art, and at the
Arden Studios in New York. 2000-3000 |
