| 499. Marcia Oakes Woodbury
(American, 1865-1913), "The Procession (Dutch Children)", c.1895; pastel/paper, 24"
x 18", signed, very nicely framed, exhibition label and
Vose Galleries label verso. Woodbury studied with her
husband, painter Charles Woodbury. The two were married in
1890, and honeymooned in Holland, among other places
in Europe, and that subject became a significant source
of inspiration for her work thereafter. She visited
Holland many times later, painting Dutch children. She was
a member of the New York Women's Art Club and the Boston Watercolor Club. She exhibited at the Boston
Art Club, Art Institute of Chicago, Pennsylvania Academy
of Fine Art, and the Boston Museum of Fine Art.
This is an outstanding example of this artist's work.
