Important California painter. Keith exhibited as early as 1864 in
San Francisco, and in 1868, he received a series of major
commissions from the Northern Pacific Railroad and the Oregon navigation
and Railroad Company. He was deeply influenced in his later work
by his friend, painter George Inness, who encouraged Keith to
explore the mystical aspects of his natural subject. His work is in
the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, Brooklyn Museum,
and the National Gallery of Art. 5000-7000 |
