491. F. Hopkinson Smith (American, 1838-1915), "Figures And Boats", c.1880; gouache/paper, 12" x 18", signed. Well known for his watercolors. He was a member of the American Watercolor Society, Philadelphia Art Club, Society of Illustrators, and the Cincinnati Art Club. He exhibited at the national Academy of Design (1868,1880), Brooklyn Art Association, Boston Art Club, Art Institute of Chicago, and the Philadelphia Art Club. Smith worked as a naval engineer, and helped build the foundation for the Statue of Liberty. 2000-4000
