1. Important Prairie School lamp, a rare, leaded glass and oak table lamp designed by George
Mann Niedecken, c.1909-1913, 15"w x 23.5"l x 24"h, excellent condition 25,000-35,000
Note: George Mann Niedecken of Milwaukee, Wisconsin collaborated with Frank Lloyd Wright on
a number of commissions from 1908-1912. He created with Wright at least two table lamps of similar
design to this example for the Meyer May home in Grand Rapids, Michigan c.1908 and for the E.P. Irving
home in Decatur, Illinois c.1910. The Irving Lamp was illustrated in the Western Architect of 1913.
The lamp base is identical to this example yet the base is executed in brass rather than wood. The
glass design in this lamp is slightly different than the design of the Irving lamp. The inverted
triangle leaded glass lamps were made for this unknown commission and the May and Irving homes. Wall
sconces in the double inverted triangle pattern were designed by Niedecken and Mahony for the David
Amberg home in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1909. This lamp is unique and the only known surviving
example of Niedeckens' table lamp designs in the double inverted triangle pattern.
