458. Paul Grimm (American, 1892-1974), "California Landscape", c.1940; oil/canvas, 18" x 24", signed. Grimm first arrived in California in 1919. He began his art career painting backdrops for Hollywood movie studios. He eventually settled in Palm Springs in 1932. He painted primarily desert landscapes, although he did paint missions and the High Sierra. 2500-3500 |

459. William Keith (American, 1839-1911), "Landscape with Figures", c.1890; oil/canvas, 20" x 30", signed, fine frame. This California painter was deeply influenced by the work of George Inness, who stayed at his studio in 1890. Inness encouraged Keith to explore the subjective and mystical aspects of nature. His work is in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, Brooklyn Museum, and the National Gallery of Art. This is an exceptional example of his tonalist work. 6000-8000 |
