568. Southern School, (American, early 20th century), "Southern Town Scene", c.1930; oil/canvas, 44" x 34", appears to be signed indistinctly, fine contemporary frame. Strong southern image of possibly Savannah or Charleston. 2500-3500 Not Pictured:
569. Florence White Williams (American, died 1953), "Walking along Lake Michigan", c.1930; oil/canvas, 20" x 24", signed. Chicago area impressionist. Scene depicts two figures walking along a path by the lake. 250-350
570. Emerson C. Burkhardt (American, b.1905), "Spring Landscape", c.1940; oil/canvas, 20" x 28", signed. Columbus, OH painter. He exhibited throughout the 1920s-50s at the Art Institute of Chicago, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, and the Columbus Gallery of Fine Art. Colorful impressionist scene. 300-500
571. Svend Svendsen (American, 1864-1930), "Lake Michigan Scene", c .1920; oil/board, 14" x 16", signed. Chicago area artist well known for his winter landscapes with unusual use of light and shadow effects. 400-600 572. Emma Mendenhall (American, 20th century), "Spring Landscape", c.1930; watercolor/paper, 14" x 19", signed. Cincinnati artist. She studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy with Nowottny and Duveneck. She did primarily watercolors and was a member of the American Watercolor Society and the Washington Watercolor Club. Brightly colored impressionist scene. 300-500 |

573. James Milton Sessions (American, 1882-1962), "The Jeep", c.1944; watercolor, 22" x 33", signed. Sessions started out in Chicago. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1903-1906, but then took on jobs working on ships in the Great Lakes through 1914. He served in the Illinois Naval Reserve during WWI. After the war, he became a commercial illustrator. He began to focus on watercolor painting in the mid-thirties. During World War II, he made 60 works documenting the role of the Jeep in the war effort for Willys Overland Co., and it is from that series which this work comes. These wartime paintings were exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum, and were the subject of a book. 2500-3500 |
