541. Emile Gruppe (American, 1896-1978), "Bathers", c.1930; oil/canvas, 24" x 20", signed, carved frame. Well known impressionist painter. Gruppe was very prolific, painting mostly harbor scenes and landscapes, but he did paint figures and nudes as well. Emile's father was painter, Charles Gruppe. After serving in the Navy in WWI, he established a studio in Gloucester, MA, where he remained throughout his career. Gruppe's paintings of this subject matter are rarely this large. 8000-11,000
