516. Harvey Joiner (American, 1852-1932), "Sisters", c.1885; oil/canvas, 51" x 40", signed and dated. Joiner was
born in Indiana, and established a studio in Louisville, KY in 1880. He became well known for his landscapes of
Beech trees in Cherokee Park (Louisville). He studied in St. Louis briefly and sketched Blacks working on riverboats
on the Mississippi. Although Joiner's landscapes were mostly formula paintings, he had a great skill in
figure painting, as seen in this rare and important work. 5000-7000
