16", signed, fine carved frame. Important orientalist painter. Weeks first went to Paris in 1869, to study at
the Ecoles des Beaux-Arts with Jean-Leon Gerome. Weeks shared Gerome's interest in oriental subject matter,
and traveled to North Africa, Spain, and the Middle East. Weeks spent most of the 1870s in Morocco,
occasionally returning to his hometown of Boston. He called Paris home after 1880, although he continued his expeditions
to India, Persia, and Turkey. Weeks was a photographer, a writer, and an illustrator, in addition to being a
