Alexander Girard joined Herman Miller as the textile designer in 1951. His vivid combination of color and pattern had a profound effect on the Eameses from their first association in the late 1940s. His love of folk art and Indian artifacts were shared by Charles and Ray. Sandro, as he was known, was a life long friend.

An initial production run of 5000 child's chairs and stools were done in 1945. The collection proved hard to market and production was never repeated.
