This example represents the earliest date of manufacture of the rocker. The front struts do not attach to the front of the base as in later examples but cross through the chair and attach to the upper back. This was changed in the first year of production due to the fact that a person rocking would hit the back of their leg on the cross-brace. The later variation solved this problem.
