| 277. Gabriel Carelli (Italian, 1821-1900), "Carthage", c.1891; watercolor/paper, 5" x 14", signed, dated, and titled. Carelli specialized in watercolors of Europe, Palestine, and the coast of Africa, from Morocco to Egypt. He had traveled with his father to England in the 1840s, and eventually married an English girl. Queen Victoria took notice of his work, and she frequently requested to see anything new from him. 800-1200 |
