This print was included in the exhibition catalog, "Second Sight: Printmaking in Chicago, 1935-1995", James Yood, 1996, Northwestern University. Highly important figure to the international abstract art movement. Printmaking was an important part of the body of work to artists at the Bauhaus and the Institute of Design. 700-900 |

784. John G.F. Von Wicht (German/American, 1888-1970), "Abstract Composition", c.1950; oil/canvas, 41" x 18", signed. Von Wicht studied in Germany before moving to the U.S. He was a member of the Abstract American Artists and the Society of Designer-Craftsmen and exhibited at the Whitney Museum, Metropolitan Museum, Boston Museum and the Art Institute of Chicago (1930s-50s). Von Wicht represented the connection between the Bauhaus and American Abstract painters. 2500-4500 |

785. Daniel Massen (American, 1896-1979), "60-2", c.1945; oil/canvas, 34" x 26", signed and titled on verso. Massen's paintings which were exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago in the 1940s bared similar numbers. Important painter and teacher of the Institute of Design (Chicago). He exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Phillips Academy, Maryland. His work was highly influenced by the work of Charles Biederman. Massen's work is featured in a new book titled, Abstract American Art of the 1930s and 1940s, the collection of J. Nichols. A rare and important painting from this artist. 4000-6000 |
