735. Emile Gruppe (American,
1896-1978), "Gloucester Harbor", c.1940; oil/canvas, 18"
x 20", signed. Gruppe was the son of
painter Charles Gruppe. He studied at the Art
Students League and the National Academy. Gruppe also worked closely with John Carlson, at
the advice of his father. During the 1920s, he began selling his work through a dealer
quite successfully and soon moved to Rockport, MA.
Gruppe spent most of his life painting in the Gloucester area, specializing in harbor
scenes and landscapes. 4500-6500 Not Pictured:
736. Elizabeth Muhlhofer (American, early 20th century), "Red and Pink Roses in a Vase", c.1925; watercolor/paper, 12.5" x 15.5", signed. Washington D.C. painter, known especially for her still lifes. She frequently worked in watercolor as well as oil. She exhibited Society of Washington Artists, Washington Watercolor Club and the Corcoran Gallery. 300-500 |
