avec Poissons", c.1930; oil/canvas, 16" x 22.5", signed. Camoin
attended the Ecoles des Beaux-Arts in 1898 and
befriended Matisse, Rouault, and marquet. He exhibited at the
Salon d'Autumne in 1905, which was considered the
definitive beginning of Fauvism. He traveled with Matisse
and Marquet in 1912-13 to London, Frankfort, and North Africa.
He exhibited at the Armory Show in NY in 1913. In 1927,
Camoin met Renoir, and this meeting became influential to
Camoin's later work. Although his palette was generally more subdued,
