| 454. Charles Warren Eaton (American, 1857-1937), "Canal in Bruges", c.1885; oil/canvas, 24" x 20", signed, fine original frame. Well known tonalist painter. Eaton studied at the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design. Eaton painted in Bruges, Belgium in the mid-1880s. After the 1910s, Eaton traveled to Europe less frequently, painting mainly in Connecticut. This is an excellent example of Eaton's mature work. 3000-5000 |

| 455. Ida Waugh (American, died 1919), "Conversation in a Dutch Landscape", c.1910; oil/canvas, 17.5" x 12.5", signed on bottom margin. Provenance: the estate of American artist, Charles Morris Young. Waugh studied with her father, painter Samuel B. Waugh, and with Lefebvre, in Paris. She exhibited at the National Academy in 1896, and her work is in the collection of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. She also illustrated children's books. She was the sister of painter Frederick Judd Waugh. Ida was known for her scenes of Dutch life. 1000-2000 |

| 456. Victor Gabriel Gilbert (French, 1847-1935), "Playing with Hoops", c.1890; oil/canvas, 18" x 21.5", signed, ornate frame. Gilbert was primarily self-taught. He could not afford to attend the Ecole de Beaux-Arts, but by working as an artisan for Eugene Adam, he was allowed to take evening classes with Pere Levasseur at the Ecole de la Ville de Paris. During the 1870s-80s, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francois, was very successful, winning several prizes and selling works. One patron was art dealer Pere Martin, who represented Jongkind and Boudin. Gilbert was well known for his paintings of children. He was awarded the silver medal at the Paris World's Fair of 1889, elected Chevalier de la Legion d'honneur in 1897, and awarded the acclaimed Prix de Bonnat in 1926. 18,000-22,000 |
