| 555. Raphael Soyer (American, b.1899), "Dancer Study", c.1945; ink/buff paper, 19" x 12.5" signed, provenance. Important American artist. Born in Russia, Soyer and his two brothers (both artists) came to the U.S. in 1912. His favorite subject was the female figure, either in the studio or the workplace. He executed many sketches of figures, which are simple, yet reveal the core of the expressive, brushy style which is seen in his major works. 300-500 |
