| 544. B.J.O. Nordfeldt (American, 1876-1955), "Sleeping Man", c.1935; oil/board, 20" x 16", signed, original frame. Important modernist. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1899. He went to France briefly, then returned to Chicago and became a portrait painter. He moved around for the next ten years, and eventually settled in New Mexico in 1917. It was in Santa Fe that Nordfeldt began to really mature as a painter. He was sympathetic to the Spanish-Americans, and executed portraits and still lifes. 5000-7000 |

| 545. Xavier Gonzales (American, b.1898), "Dulcines", c.1968; mixed media/paper, 18" x 24", signed and dated. Gonzales studied at the Art Institute of Chicago in the early 1920s. He was awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship in 1949, and the Ford Foundation grant in 1965. He later taught at the Newcomb College for Women of Tulane University. He worked in Texas, Louisiana, and New York. 800-1200 |
