436. Karl Yens (American, 1868-1945), group of
four architectural renderings, done in watercolor
and pencil, one is shown; first is a sitting room design done in a Celtic style, done in 1909,
18" x 36", signed and dated. The second,
not pictured, is an architectural detail of a
garden column, showing a fountain and courtyard in
the background, done in 1904; 9.5" x 9", signed
and dated. The third, not pictured, is a detail of
a ceiling mural of a man and a woman with a dog surrounded by ornate floral decorations, 9"
x 13", signed and dated 1905. The fourth,
also not pictured, is a ceiling design, very
elaborate floral and figurative decoration, 15.5" x
9.75", signed. Yens was well known as a muralist
in Europe before moving to the U.S. in 1901. He settled in Los Angeles around 1910
and exhibited at the Laguna Beach Art Association, Panama-California Expo (1915), Oakland
Art Gallery, and the Painters and Sculptors of
Los Angeles. These works reveal Yen's
technical ability as a draftsman, as well as his talent as
a painter. 2500-4500
