566. Louis Schanker (American, 1903-1981), "Abstract Composition", c.1946; oil/canvas, 24" x 40", signed and
dated, from the estate of the artist. Important NYC abstract painter. He was a member of the American Abstract
Artists and the American Art Congress. He executed WPA murals and was the director of the graphic arts program in
the early 1940s. He exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, National Academy of Design, and the Whitney Museum.
He taught at the Hew School for Social Research in NYC. 3500-5500
