504. Frederic M. Grant (American, b.1886), "Electrified Fountain, Century of Progress, Chicago", c.1933; oil/canvas, 31" x 33", signed. Chicago impressionist. Grant studied with Chase and Miller, and specialized primarily in landscapes and still lifes. His works with figures are rare and highly desirable. He exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago Artist Guild, Chicago Artists Club, and the Palm Beach Art Center. 505. Frederick Ballard Williams (American, 1871-1956), "Arcadia", c.1920; oil/canvas, 28" x 36", signed, modified Barbizon style frame. Known for his idealized images of women in nature. Williams studied at the Cooper Union School and the National Academy. He won the Isidor Gold Medal at the National Academy for a figurative work in 1909. Williams believed that the artistic interpretation of nature in painting achieved a higher level beauty than the subject itself. His work is in numerous public collections, including the Art Institute of Chicago, Brooklyn Museum, St. Louis Art Museum, Metropolitan Museum, and the National Gallery of Art. 3000-5000 |
