502. James P. Butler (American, 1893-1976), "Hillcrest, Candor NY", c.1917; oil/canvas, 25.5" x 29.5", signed and dated. Butler was part of the second wave of American painters to work in Giverny, France. His paintings done in France and in the United States, reveal the direct influence of the French post-impressionists. His vibrant palette and bold brushwork defy the traditional American impressionist heritage. 2000-3000
