539. William M. Hart (American, 1823-1894), "The Hudson Valley", c.1851; oil/canvas laid down, 10" x 14", signed and dated, excellent ornate frame. Important Hudson River School painter. Born in Scotland, Hart moved to Albany, NY in 1831. He traveled throughout New York from 1849-52, painting, and eventually settled in New York City. He was a member of the National Academy of Design, Brooklyn Academy of Design, and the American Watercolor Society. This earlier work reveals much more detail than his later, more broadly conceived works. An excellent example of hart's work, from his finest period. 3000-5000
