709. Ray Johnson (American, 1927-1995), "Family", c. 1963; oil/canvas, 20" x 14", signed and dated. Johnson was part of the Black Mountain College group in North Carolina in the late 1940s. This was a group of artists and writers known for their progressive views on art and life-style. The most famous member of this group was Bauhaus instructor, Josef Albers. Johnson's work was the subject of an exhibition at the Whitney this last spring, which included 150 works by him. 500-700 |
