672. Jane Peterson (American, 1876-1965), "Palm Beach Huts", c.1930; oil/canvas, 17" x 19", signed. Important post-impressionist painter. Her distinct style and palette was immediately well received, and she had her first one man show in Boston in 1909. She also exhibited at the National Academy of Design. Peterson traveled all over the world painting, and her subject matter varied, but her concern with light and color is evident in all her work. 4000-6000

675. Bernard Karfiol (American, 1886-1952), "Still Life Composition", c.1925; oil/canvas, 36" x 28", signed, nicely framed. Karfiol was born in Hungary to American parents, and grew up in New York City. He was a youthful prodigy. At the age of 14, he enrolled at the National Academy of Design and a year later went to Paris to study with Jean-Paul Laurens. He exhibited at the Paris Salon, and was highly influenced by the work of Cezanne, Renoir, and Derain. He returned to the U.S. in 1906, and exhibited at the Armory Show in NYC in 1913. He spent the summers in Maine. His work is in the collections of the Carnegie Institute, L.A. County Museum, Museum of Modern Art, and the Whitney Museum. 5000-7000

677. Stanley Bielecky (American, early 20th century), "Tabletop Still Life", c.1940; oil/board, 24" x 20", signed, unframed. Northern Indiana modernist painter. Studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, and exhibited in the 1930s-40s. He taught at Valparaiso University in the late 1940s. 300-500 |
