Treadway Gallery Fine Paintings sales leader

667. Charles Reiffel (American, 1862-1942), "Winter in Connecticut", c. 1920; oil/canvas, 30" x 25", signed. Reiffel moved to San Diego in 1925. William Gerdts, in the book, All Things Bright and Beautiful, California Impressionist Paintings from the Irvine Museum, discusses Reiffel's unusual style of painting, "Reiffel deliberately sought out scenes bounding in irregular surfaces and contrasting natural forms... His subject matter was... the richly colored mountains that guard San Diego on the North and East. Critics note the impact of European Modernism on his art, especially the planar concerns of Paul Cezanne and the nervous flow of Vincent Van Gogh." 12,000-18,000
