Chittenden was a resident of Pacific Heights, near San Francisco. She exhibited at the San Francisco Artist Association, San Francisco Society of Women Artists, Bohemian Club, National Academy of Design, and the Golden Gate International Expo. 1500-2500

655. Adolph Heinze (American, b.1857), "Sherburne Lake", c.1910; oil/canvas, 28" x 36", signed, fine original carved frame. Heinze studied in Chicago with K.A. Buehr and Frederic Grant. He was a member of the Chicago Gallery Association, All-Illinois Fine Artists Association, and the Chicago Palette and Sculptors. He exhibited at the Municipal Art League and the Chicago Gallery Association (1927). This is an exceptional example of this artist's work in the West. 2500-3500

P>656. Paul Grimm (American, 1892-1974), "Pacific Coast", c.1940; oil/canvas, 20" x 30", signed. Grimm moved to Hollywood in 1919, and began painting backdrops for a living. He settled in palm Springs in 1932, and remained there the rest of his life. He was well known for his desert scenes and coastal scenes of southern California. He exhibited at the San Diego Expo (1935), and his work is in the collections of the Sierra Nevada Museum, Bank of America, and the Palm Springs Post Office. 1500-2500

657. Ray Strong (American, b.1905), "California Coast", c.1945; oil/board, 15.5" x 26", signed. California impressionist painter. Strong studied in San Francisco and New York. He taught in San Francisco in the 1930s, with Maynard Dixon and Frank Van Sloun. He made dioramas for the San Diego Expo (1939) and the Golden Gate Expo. He also worked as a diorama painter for the U.S. Forest Service and National Parks Dept. during the 1930s-40s. He was a member of the Society of Western Artists, Santa Barbara Art Association, and was cofounder of the Santa Barbara Art Institute. 1500-2500
