644. Franz Arthur Bischoff (American, 1864-1929), "Mountain Landscape", c.1910; oil/board, 13" x 19", signed, fine period ornate frame. Bischoff arrived in California in 1900, and six years later established a studio in Los Angeles. He was already well known for his ability as a china painter, but in California, his attention turned to colorful landscape paintings. His works are included in the collections of the Laguna Beach Museum, Terra Museum, and the Oakland Museum. George Luks (American, 1867-1933), "The Boy Scout", c.1920; oil/panel, 14" x 10", signed, inscription on verso: "To Leon's little boy...I bought this sketch directly from George Luks in 1920, when he painted my portrait, "The Man in Blue"...Oct 24/50"; Provenance: Frederic I Thaler, Cornwall Bridge, CT, Christie's label. Important Ashcan School painter, and one of The Eight. Luks was well known for his portraits, and his work is in numerous important museum collections. 3000-5000
