640. Nick Eggenhoffer (American, b.1897), "Reward for the Capture of Monte Peat", c.1940; gouache/paper, 16" x 12", signed. The sign in the image reads, "$1000 REWARD FOR THE CAPTURE OF MONTE PEAT, DEAD OR ALIVE, SAM SHORTS, SHERIFF...MONTANA". Eggenhoffer moved to the U.S. from Germany in 1913. He studied at the Cooper Union Art School and was a member of the Cowboy Artists of America and the National Academy of Western Art. His work is in the National Cowboy Hall of Fame. His studio was in New Jersey until 1925, and then he moved to Cody, Wyoming. He was the author and illustrator of "Wagons, Mules, and Men", 1961. 1000-1500

Well known western painter, frequently worked in watercolor. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Chicago Academy of Fine Art. 1000-1500

642. Chester Leich (American, b.1889), "Indian Woman", c.1945; oil/canvas, 14" x 10", signed. Studied in Chicago and in Germany. He exhibited extensively at the World's Fair New York, National Academy of Design, Paris Salon, Art Institute of Chicago, and the Tucson Fine Art Association (1930s-40s). He was originally from Evansville, IN, and his work is included in many public collections in Indiana, including the Evansville Art Museum; also the National Academy of Design and Museum of New Mexico. 700-900

643. Frederick Doyle Penney (American, 1900-1988), "Smoke Tree Canyon, La Quinta, CA", c.1953; oil/board, 12" x 16", signed, well framed. Penney moved to Los Angeles in 1924. He spent nearly 30 years painting in the Coachella Valley, near Palm Springs. He was a member of the Laguna Beach Art Association, Shadow Mountain Palette Club, and the California Watercolor Society. He exhibited at the California Art Club and the Society for the Sanity in Art. 500-700
