592. Mattie Lietz (American, 1893-1956), "The Pet Bird", c.1930; oil/board, 32" x 27", signed. Lietz was a very talented painter whose work does not appear often on the market. Lietz studied with Frederic Grant and George Elmer Browne at the Art Institute of Chicago, and was a member of the Chicago Gallery Association. She exhibited at the National Academy of Design, Art Institute of Chicago, Hoosier Salon, and the All-Illinois Fine Art Association (1930s-40s). Her work is in the collections of the Tipton (Indiana) Public Library and the Norton Art Gallery (Palm Beach, FL). An outstanding example of this artist's work. 2500-4500

Hamilton studied in Paris and at the Art Students League. She was a member of the Louisville Art Association, Boston Art Club, and the Washington Art Club, and exhibited extensively throughout the 1930s-40s, at the Syracuse Museum of Fine Art, University of Kentucky, and the National Arts Club. She painted a variety of subjects in a loose, colorful style. 500-700 |

596. Lucie Hartrath (American, early 20th century), "Sunlit Bank", c. 1920; oil/canvas, 22" x 24", signed, original carved frame, titled verso. Important Indiana/Illinois impressionist. Hartrath studied with Vanderpoel at the Art Institute of Chicago. She exhibited as early as 1901, at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. She also exhibited at the Hoosier Salon, Paris Salon, and the Chicago Municipal Art League. Hartrath visited Brown County, IN in 1908, and painted there regularly.
