| 765. Andrew Coppola (American, 1941-1992), "Black Odyssey", c.1976; bronze, 22" x 20", signed in script and monogrammed.
Coppola graduated from the Hartford Art School (Connecticut) in 1963, and received a Fulbright-Hays Fellowship
for sculpture in Florence, Italy (1964-65). He exhibited at the Colona Galeria (Florence); Slater Museum, Norwich
Free Academy (Norwich, CT); New Britain Museum of American Art (CT); Wadsworth Atheneum (Hartford); Haverford
College (PA); Hartford College (CT); and the New Jersey Art and Architecture Traveling Exhibition. Coppola was an
adjunct faculty member of the University of Hartford, and a featured lecturer/instructor at the Boston College of Art, University
of New Hampshire, West Hartford Art League, and the University of Pennsylvania. 9000-12,000

The subject of "Black Odyssey" is Cinque, the Mende tribesman who was abducted from his homeland and sold into slavery in 1839. In transport off the coast of Cuba, Cinque valiantly led his fellow captives in mutiny against their oppressors.
