| 707. William S. Schwartz (Russian/American, 1896-1977), "Hurdy Gurdy Man", c.1929; oil/canvas, 36" x 40", signed,
titled, and dated. Important Chicago modern painter. Schwartz studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and in Russia. He
exhibited at the Detroit Institute of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago (1920s - 1930s), and his work is included in the collections
of the Art Institute of Chicago, Detroit Institute of Art, Library of Congress, Dallas Museum of Fine Art, Biro-Bidjan
Museum (Russia), and the Department of Labor. This is an outstanding example of the artist's work, and arguably his finest painting.
