Schwartz studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and in Russia. He exhibited at the Detroit Institute of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago (1920s - 1930s), and his work is included in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, Detroit Institute of Art, Library of Congress, Dallas Museum of Fine Art, Biro-Bidjan Museum (Russia), and the Department of Labor.
