| 651. B.J.O. Nordfeldt (American, 1876-1955), "Santa Fe
House", c.1934; oil/canvas, 34" x 30", signed. Important modernist.
He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1899. He
moved around for the next ten years, and eventually settled in
New Mexico in 1917. It was in Santa Fe that Nordfeldt began
to really mature as a painter. He was sympathetic to
the Spanish-Americans, and executed portraits and still lifes.
In the 1920s, he painted more colorful Indian subjects and
