| 63. William M. Hart (American, 1823-1894), "Pastoral Landscape
with Cattle and Figures", c.1855; oil/canvas, 8" x 16", signed,
excellent original frame. Hudson River School painter from Albany, NY.
Hart traveled throughout the eastern part of the country painting in
the 1840s. In 1854, he opened a studio in New York City, and that
year became the first president of the Brooklyn Academy of Design.
Hart was a member of the National Academy of Design and his work
is included in the collections of the Albany Institute of Art,
Metropolitan Museum, New York Historical Society, and Vassar College.
This is an excellent, early example of Hart's work.
